A short drive just north of the Golden Gate Bridge, Sausalito is tucked in the hillside just upon the waterfront. It is adjacent to, and largely bounded by, the protected spaces of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Sausalito encompasses both steep, wooded hillside and shoreline tidal flats. This picturesque residential community incorporating large numbers of houseboats is a wealthy and artistic enclave. The tight-knit neighborhood takes great pride in their surroundings in order to maintain and enjoy the beautiful territory in which it resides. Locals and tourists alike take advantage of exploring the Marin Headlands, sailing on the bay, wine tasting and food sampling at local art festivals, relaxing in the park for Jazz on the Bay during the summer, trying delicious local eateries and shopping at the farmers market.
Sausalito is served by the Sausalito Marin City School District for primary school and the Tamalpais Union High School District for secondary school. Residents have two public schools to choose from: the K-8 public school Bayside/Martin Luther King Academy in Marin City or the K-8 charter school Willow Creek Academy in Sausalito. There are two private elementary schools that have been newly established in Sausalito, The K-8 Waldorf style New Village School, and PreK - 5 Lycee Francais. High schoolers attend Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley.
If you're looking to live in Marin, but still want close access to San Francisco, Sausalito offers a picturesque residential community that gives you the feeling of going on vacation every time you drive home from work.
